Abstract
A total of 117 patients with pancreatic stones underwent ESWL and endoscopic therapy in our institute. Fragmentation of the stones was achieved in 97%, immediate pain relief was achieved in 97% and complete removal of stones was achieved in 56%. ESWL and endoscopic therapy for pancreatic stones proved to be effective for short term pain relief. As for the exocrine pancreatic function, it was improved in the short-term follow-up period. In the long-term follow-up period, however, both exocrine and endocrine pancreatic functions deteriorated, especially in patients who were habitual alcohol drinkers.
