Abstract
In this presentation, we report on novel color sheets for sensing mechanical stress prepared from lyotropic cholesteric liquid crystals (CLCs) of a crosslinkable hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) derivative with acrylate monomer liquids. The cellulosic CLC films showed elastic feature, thereby enabling the immediate changes of reflection colors by mechanical compression. Moreover, we could control the mechanical stress ranges with reflection color changes of CLC elastomer films by the acrylate monomer liquids dissolved in lyotropic CLCs. In this way, the present report provides a promising guideline to fabricate the environment and human friendly color sheets of HPC derivatives for the mechanical stress sensing applications.
