Abstract
Philippine Airlines (PAL), Asia's oldest airline, folded operations on Sep. 23, 1998, after it failed to resolve a long-standing dispute with its labor union. However, the ground operations of the airline will continue until such time they are sold or merged with MacroAsia, a ground-handling and catering firm also majority-owned by PAL Chairman Lucio Tan. PAL executives have already started the process of liquidation, but they said they will continue working on a rehabilitation plan for the company. All of PAL's 8,700 employees will be terminated as a result of the closure.
