Abstract
A 'modular approach' to the in-house validation of PCR methods proposed by the European Reference Laboratory for verocytotoxigenic Escherichia coli (VTEC) (EURL-VTEC) was applied to monitor E. coli for the microbiological criteria for food as an indicator of hygienic conditions recommended by European Commission regulation 2073/005. The study demonstrated the application of modular approach for the validation of PCR methods in food microbiology, using single-target plasmids as positive controls and food matrices.
