Abstract
The feminism of the generation of Jamaican women bringing up families in fifties and sixties Britain is discussed by the daughter of one of the thousands of West Indian women who left Jamaica in their mid-twenties in search of a better life in the UK. The feminism of these Jamaican women was born from a knowledge of racism and inequality since Jamaican men, having arrived in the UK full of hope and finding only racism, turned their fears and frustrations on their wives and children. Many Jamaican men opted out, forcing their wives to become the man as well as the woman.
