Abstract
The development of catalytic reactions that affect carbon-carbon bond formation by uniting readily available functional groups is discussed. The first member of the family wherein the pt-system of one molecule combines with a functional group that has no multiple bonds, affording synthetically useful, chiral homoallylic alcohols is described.
