Abstract
Analysis of the bile from rats of different ages for the presence of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) and the related binding proteins (IGFBPs) through Sephadex gel chromatography or Western ligand blot reveals that rat bile contains significant amounts of IGF-I and that IGFBPs are absent. Bile of suckling rats has a higher concentration of IGF-I than rat milk. Native IGF-I binding is suppressed in a dose dependent manner when bile samples are treated with a placental membrane IGF receptor preparation.
