Abstract
The relationship between dentine lead levels and educational success was investigated. Dentine lead levels and educational outcomes were measured at ages 6-8 and 18, respectively. Children with early elevated lead levels were found to be of poorer reading abilities, had left school early, more often left school without qualifications, and had lower levels of success in school examinations. A cause and effect association between early dentine lead levels and later educational success and failure was observed.
