Abstract
The spontaneous oxidation of disordered fcc FePt nanoparticles (NPs) of average size 4 nm synthesized by a high-boiling coordinating solvent method is presented. The results provide insight into the electronic and magnetic properties of NPs when exposed to air and the existence of an exchange coupling in FePt at the interface of the ferromagnetic core.
