Morante (a) Abstract: Diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) analyses are described to study the CO.sub.2 sensing mechanisms in LaOCl wet chemically synthesized nanopowders. In order to establish a connection between resistance values and DRIFTS spectra, the two measurements were made simultaneously. A PLS data treatment was then applied to identify which of the absorbed specimens contribute essentially to resistance changes. Furthermore, the obtained results are discussed in light of the overall available information. From this discussion, a sensing mechanism is suggested in agreement with sensor performance and characteristics.
