Abstract
The chirp performance of a carbon dioxide waveguide laser under gain-switched and Q-switched operation is experimentally studied via measurements of the frequency sweep during the optical pulse. The investigation differentiated between the laser induced medium perturbations and the discharge heating effects to verify that the major perturbation in the laser output frequency is caused by shifts in the thermal energy.
