Abstract
This paper examines the relationship between women's home-based work and persistent poverty in their lives. The paper has two main objectives. Firstly, by drawing upon a recent study of 1800 self-employed women of Karachi, this paper aims at initiating a much-needed discourse on the selection and implementation of locally suited development strategies and plans for women's development and for poverty alleviation. Keywords: Self-employed women, feminization of poverty, development strategies, poverty alleviation, patriarchy
