Allylbarium reagents: unprecedented regio- and stereoselective allylation reactions of carbonyl compounds

Abstract
A study of the alpha-selective allylation reactions of carbonyl compounds on addition of allylic barium reagents reveals that the barium reagent reacts preferentially at the alpha-site of all compounds and maintains the stereochemistry of the initial halide. The unique alpha-selectivity and stereospecificity on barium addition are significant for organic synthesis.
