Abstract
Chemoenzymatically prepared sialyl Lewis x dimers anchored onto a galactose template or attached to 1, 4-butanediol or 1,5-pentanediol show higher activity than the sialyl Lewis x pentasaccharide. The monomeric conformation is retained by the sialyl Lewis x domain of the dimer. These dimers serve as inhibitors of E-selection-mediated cell adhesion and exhibit different patterns of activity, which is due to variations in the orientation and distance between the monomer domains.
