Abstract
A PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method for the identification of the HLA-Cw sequences that encodes the HLA class I heavy chains by the digestion of amplified DNA by restriction endonucleases is described. The patterns obtained for the HLA-Cw sequences using this PCR-RFLP method are unique which makes the identification easy and fast. Using this method, six new HLA-Cw sequences have been discovered which show that another allele-sharing cluster is present in the HLA-B locus. The HLA class I heavy chains are important in immune recognition by the cells.
