Abstract
Human neuroblastoma cells can immediately change the positive charge on their membranes by blocking the influx of potassium ions through ion channels. The rectification rate was measured to be faster than 400 microseconds and depends on the internal concentration of sodium ions. The higher the sodium concentration inside the cell the faster the potassium influx was blocked, producing a negative slope conductance along the membrane.
