Abstract
Research was conducted to examine the conformational switching and the synthesis of spiro(2H-indol)-3(1H)-ones by radical cyclization. Experimental results were in contradiction with a previous report that nitrile was the sole reaction product of the type of radical cyclization under study. Results, however, demonstrate that radical cyclization does provide the desired spiroindoxyl imines in moderate yields.
