Abstract
A nuclear homodimeric 65-kDa protein, RanGAP1, is the immediate exchange factor RCC1 and stimulates GTPase activity of Ran by a factor greater than three orders of magnitude. The protein Ran, which is related to the nuclear protein Ras, participates in cell cycle regulation and binds guanine nucleotide.
