Duodenal diverticulum perforation from blunt trauma

Abstract
Duodenal trauma cause complications and even death when the diagnosis is delayed (5). Although up to 20% of the population have duodenal diverticula, perforation as a result of blunt trauma is uncommon. Our 84 year old patient suffered duodenal diverticular perforation in a motor vehicle collision. She had early exploration, resection, repair, and drainage. Duodenal diverticula are usually asymptomatic and found incidentally. The complication of spontaneous perforation is uncommon (1), and rupture from blunt trauma is rare. Urgent laparotomies is indicated for the management of perforation. Even then mortality is high.
