Abstract
A method to render high dynamic range (HDR) images is provided that models global and local adaptation of the human visual system, whereby the method is based on surround-based Retinex but uses an adaptive filter whose shape follows the high-contrast edges of the image. The method is tested on various HDR images, is compared with other algorithms and is seen to efficiently increase the local contrast while preventing halo artifacts and provides a good rendition of colors.
