Abstract
A study conducted among native American women tribal leaders centers on gender and ethnicity as factors influencing political participation and perceptions. Results show that the subjects perceive politics as public service and that differences exist between political behavior between men and women leaders. However, both sexes rank the tribe's economic condition as the most important political issue. The subjects also did not perceive their tribal culture as a hindrance to their political participation. However, there is no clear indication whether gender is more influential than ethnicity.
