Abstract
The semi-impermeable layer is formed just below the puddled topsoil by the sealing of the macrophores with fine particles. These fine particles are translocated during the process of puddling in rice fields. The semi-permeable layer causes low percolation rate in the soil. The percolation processes are studied using the SAWAH, a one dimensional simulation model. The model also predicts the infiltration rate, pressure and lead gradients and ponding water depth (PWD) in puddled rice fields.
