Abstract
Most children can be weaned off a mechanical ventilator in two days or less, regardless of the method used. This was the conclusion of a study of 182 children who were weaned off a ventilator using three different methods. Weaning means the patient is gradually given less ventilator support and begins breathing on his or her own.
