Abstract
A Kluyveromyces yeast strain expressing human serum albumin (HSA) conjugated to CD4 was constructed as a possible agent to block the binding of the human immunodeficiency virus to target cells. The expressed HSA-CD4 had binding and antiviral activities similar to the unconjugated soluble CD4. Furthermore, the protein conjugate displayed a half-life comparable to the unconjugated HSA. These results suggestthat the Kluyveromyces expression system can be used to generate CD4 conjugatesfor use in acquired immune deficiency syndrome therapy.
