Abstract
Research shows that the neuronal enzyme nitrous oxide synthase (nNOS) catalyzes the production of nitric oxide which in turn controls red blood cell flow in cerebral capillaries. The biochemical pathway is vital to the regulation of cerebral capillary flow during hypoxia. Experiments using epifluorescence videomicroscopy techniques on adult Sprague-Dawley rats and the nNOS inhibitor 7nitroindazole are described.
