Abstract
Research was conducted to examine the growth of mixed microbial cultures and production of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in sterile building materials and from building materials contaminated by mixed microbial cultures at different relative humidities. Results indicate that various VOCs go with microbial activity but that no single VOC is a reliable indicator of biocontamination in building materials.
