Abstract
Methyl 4, 8-dioxoxanthoxylol (1), a representative example of the axial-equatorial bislactone furofuran lignans having two different aryl groups, was synthesized based on the stereocontrolled aldol reaction of the acid anhyderide3 and veratral.
