Abstract
O-(tert-butyldimethylsilyl)-cyanohydrins were used to synthesise 1-arylnaphthalene lignan lactones. This two step process used conjugate addition-aldol reaction. The ring closure of naphthalene was initiated by using acid catalyst. These lignan lactones have antitumor and antihyperlipidemic applications. The synthesis of 4-hydroxy-1-arylnatphtalene lignan lactones based on conjugate addition-aldol reaction is also discussed.
