Abstract
A stereocontrolled conjugate addition-aldol reaction enables the preparation of methyl piperitol, a diequatorial furofuran lignan in high yields. A new method involving acid-catalyzed inversion of the stereochemistry of the benzylic position helps prepare fargesin, an axial-equatorial furofuran lignan. Spectral studies help characterize the products.
