Abstract
Glucose, a common sugar, can be used to produce hydrogen through the use of glucose dehydrogenase and hydrogenase, both enzymes. High school and undergraduate chemistry students can learn about bioprocesses through using a simple method that demonstrates enzymatic production of hydrogen from sugar. The development of environmentally friendly bioprocesses to convert biomass and biodegradable content of municipal wastes to usable energy is of much interest.
