Abstract
An investigation was conducted to identify proteins involved in the inner-membrane transport system of yeast mitochondria. The procedures involved the use of a bifunctional crosslinker to identify proteins in the immediate vicinity of precursor proteins translocated but stuck to the protein import channel of the inner membrane. In addition, a serological approach was used to isolate antibody-bound antigens which inhibit protein import. The experiments identified a 45-kDa protein designated ISP45 which is proposed to be part of the protein import system of yeast inner mitochondrial membranes.
