Abstract
A study using pulse radiolysis technique of the reactivity of nitric oxide (NO) with SCN(sub 2)(super -), Br(sub 2)(super -), Co(sub 2)(super -), CO(sub 3)(super -) and ethyl alcohol radicals reveals that NO reacts with oxidizing free radicals SCN(sub 2)(super -) and Br(sub 2)(super -) to form NOX(sub 2)(super -) adducts which hydrolyze to NO(sub 2)(super -), while reactions with ethanol radicals yields adducts that rearrange to stable oximes and hydroxamic acids. NO reacts with CO(sub 3)(super -) via O-transfer to yield NO(sub 2)(super -) while excess NO reacts with Co(sub 2)(super -) to form (N2O2)-, NO reacts with Br(sub 2)(super -) to form (NOBR2)- at rates similar to that of (NO(SCN)2)-.
