Abstract
A child shares major histocompatibility complex (MHC) genes with its mother due to which the transmission of HIV-1 from mother to child is different from other types of HIV-1 transmission. The relevance of these immune mechanisms to HIV-1 transmission is assessed by determining the HLA-B alleles of mother and child.
