Abstract
An elderly woman relates her experiences as a nurse in the early 1900s. These include her life as a student nurse in nursing school at Christ Hospital in Topeka, KS, and care of a pregnant woman who acquired pneumonia and later died together with her unborn baby. She also tells of her patient who had a rare case of erysipelas, an acute form of cellulitis, and how she assisted in treating a high school student with a ruptured appendix by applying hot turpentine stupes on his abdomen.
