Abstract
The shortage of landfill space in America has brought attention to landfill mining, which involves excavation of a fill to reclaim buried resources. The first such venture was undertaken at Tel Aviv in Israel by a private firm in 1953. The post 1980's technology has changed little and still uses open face mining techniques. The market potential for recovered products depends on their quality, and the percentage of recovery depends on the level of technology in use and how efficiently it is managed.
