Abstract
The first evidence for activation of cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) Cl- channels by a cloned ancestral C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP) receptor is presented. Such evidence was gathered from results of the cloning, characterization and functional expression of a CNP receptor regulating CFTR in the shark rectal gland. Results also identify the specific natriuretic peptide receptor responsible for Cl- secretion in the shark rectal gland.
