Structural and magnetic characterization of CaCu(HCOO)4 and Ca2Cu(HCOO)6: two new one-dimensional ferromagnetic bis(mu-oxo-ligand)-bridged chains

Abstract
The formates CaCu(HCOO)4 and Ca2Cu(HCOO)6 were studied for their crystal structures and magnetic properties. Both formates crystallize in the monoclinic system space groups P2/c and C2/c, respectively. Their structures consist of a tridimensional array of Cu(II) and Ca(II) ions joined by formate bidentate groups. Magnetic susceptibility measurements indicate a behavior common to infinite arrays of spins ferromagnetically coupled. Electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopic studies reveal data peculiar to one-dimensional magnetic materials.
