Abstract
The Chinese National Petroleum Corp is experimenting with the use of blast furnace slag mixed with mud to replace cement in plugging oil wells. The company has used mud solidified with slag in 22 projects. The slag was dried and ground, mixed with a hardening agent, then mixed with mud, tested and introduced to the wells to be plugged. China National has had good results from the tests and costs of transportation are better than cement.
