Abstract
The involvement of alpha1-adrenergic receptor supersensitivity on the development of autonomic dysreflexia was investigated using experimentally transected Wistar and Sprague-Dawley rats by monitoring the arterial pressure while the subjects are undergoing colorectal distention. Results reveal that alpha1-adrenergic receptor supersensitivity does not play a role in the development of autonomic dysreflexia. Transected Wistar rats are better models of human autonomic dysreflexia.
