Abstract
Injection drug use (IDU) is a major risk factor for serious bacterial infections that require prolonged courses of antibiotics including bacteremia, endocarditis, bone and joint infections, and epidural abscesses [1-3]. [...]
Injection-related infections require prolonged antibiotic therapy. Outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT) has been shown to be feasible for people who inject drugs (PWID) in some settings. We report a national survey on practice patterns and attitudes of infectious diseases clinicians in the United States regarding use of OPAT for PWID. Keywords. OPAT; PWID; substance use disorder.
