Abstract
The capability of a human capital model which focuses on the individual characteristics of workers, to explain the differences in the earnings of Latino women and Anglo men, is evaluated. The effects of race/ethnicity and gender on earnings are studied by regression decomposition analyses. Results show that the human capital model explains only 25% of the earnings difference. When the net effect of ethnicity is regulated keeping gender constant, the model explains 83% of the earnings gap.
