Abstract
This is a final report of an archaeological excavation at Lagavooren 4 01E0163 which was located on the route of the M1 Northern Motorway Gormanston – Monasterboice (Drogheda Bypass), Platin to Oldbridge, Chainage 21600–24800, Contract 7, County Meath. The excavation was carried out by Rob Lynch of Irish Archaeological Consultancy Ltd on behalf of Meath County Council. The work was carried out under licence No. 01E0163 which was received from the DoEHLG in consultation with the National Museum of Ireland. The fieldwork took place between 16–19 February 2001. This site comprised a single pit and was discovered during monitoring. An area measuring c.12m x 7m (84m²) was cleaned back by hand and no further features were identified. No C14 dates were established and no finds were recovered from the pit so it remains undated. Little can be said about this single pit, however it is possible that it may have had some association with features excavated on sites in the immediate vicinity which included an early Neolithic structure at Lagavooren 5 (01E0129) and Iron Age pits containing burnt bone at Lagavooren 1 (01E0161).
