Abstract
This report comprises the final results of the archaeological excavation of Greens Berry Farm, Ballydermot / Toberduff townlands, Co. Wexford. Work was undertaken as part of the archaeological mitigation programme for the proposed N11 Gorey to Arklow Link Road Scheme. Additional testing and excavation was conducted under Ministerial Direction No. A003/064, (Registration No E3532) by Liam McKinstry, for Valerie J Keeley Ltd, from 5th to 23rd September, 2005. Excavations revealed at 11 sites within Greens Berry Farm produced evidence for at least three phases of archaeological activity, including an Early Bronze Age enclosed hearth – possibly a structure or fenced enclosure, and two contemporary early/late transitional features, a corn-drying kiln and a burnt pit. A number of isolated undated features including pits, linear ditches and post-hole features were also encounters, as well as obvious early modern activity and possibly modern agricultural drainage ditches. No artefacts or significant evidence of permanent settlement, burial or ritualised monumental funerary activity, similar to that excavated at site 42-44, was revealed from this excavation at Green Berry Farm. Therefore, the evidence represented was low-scale, agricultural, transient and isolated in nature. All archaeological work is now complete for this site and this report constitutes the final report on this excavation. A digital copy of the archive is available at the post excavation offices of Valerie J Keeley Ltd., Brehon House, Kilkenny Road, Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny. The original paper archive for this excavation will rest with the Department of Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht. NOTE COORDINATES ADJUSTED TO A CENTRAL POINT OF MULTIPLE SITES.
