The purpose of this research is to find the strategy to create the national wealth through promoting the “defense industry" which is newly emphasized as a driving force based on Park Geun-Hye administration's national policy of creative economy for the creation of new national driving forces and more jobs. In this regard, this research is focused on analyzing the status and strength of overall defense industry and finding out the strategy to promote the defense export and to support the small/md-size defense companies. As a policy research paper, the study is mainly about the role of government on the policy of improving the managing environment of defense companies and the job creation effect. Nowadays, the defense industry is growing from a domestic industry for an individual country's arms buildup and national security to a main industry contributing to the national strength by converging high technologies. Thus, this study aimed to explore the practical solutions for the economic growth and job creation through finding out more ways to export defense products and making plans to support small/mid-sized defense companies with the new concept and structure of the defense industry of Korea. The defense industry, as a new icon of Korean economy, should function as a driving force to solve many economic problems such as economic depression and poor job market, and thereby become the core of creative economy by converging with the civil creative power.
