Today's wedding diversified escaping from a standardized frame has been established as a new culture. Now wedding is used as a means of representation showing ‘myself’, expressing the identity of individual's own as another mode through costume, a wedding dress. This study aimed to examine characteristics of wedding dress design shown from such a changed wedding culture. Hence, based on the theoretical analysis, this research investigated the history and a recent situation of the domestic wedding culture and examined the history of a domestic wedding dress and its design elements. As for the empirical study, articles of magazine 『mywedding』 on 70 volumes from January, 2012 to October, 2017 were collected to identify changed characteristics of the domestic wedding culture shown from its present situation to be analysed 4 characteristics including ‘expression of personality', ‘small party', ‘rational choice', ‘ethical consumption’. As a result of analyzing formative characteristics of a wedding dress according to features of the domestic wedding culture in the case study, it derived design characteristics including the simplicity, practicality, variability and circularity. The simplicity may be explained as a natural form expressed with the simple, practicality as a form used in various manners without regard to formality, variability as a form changed according to space-time and expressed in an individual manner and circularity as a natural and beautiful form undistorted. In other words, wedding dress design in the changed domestic wedding culture pursued the natural using a simple line, utilized plain colors, practical and borderless items with everyday wear, suggesting design faithful to the basics that made the best of characteristics of a material and excluded ornamentation.
