Abstract
This paper will deal with the politics of difference of Iris Marion Young. In particular I will focus on the meaning and the limits of Young’s political theory with social justice. Young basically believes that the theory of social justice should start from the interest of social structure and system. for individuals that pursue good lives. However, Young thinks that justice as a distribution cannot solve the problem of structural injustice. For Young, a just society is a society in which individuals can freely express their individuality and present their opinion without domination and oppression. Young maintains that we will achieve a such a just society throughout the politics of difference. I will firstly examine Young’s dissatisfaction with a distributive theory of justice. Then I will look at her theory of justice as the politics of difference. Secondly, I will critically examine the politics of difference and deal with its significance and limitations. Lastly, I will insist that Young’s politics of difference show us the direction of democracy in plural society. Furthermore I will maintains that Young’s theory of justice should not distinguish between issues of good life and justice.
