This study examines the types and characteristics of Chinese characters by paying attention to the Chinese characters and their sounds used in the explanations in 「yeui」, 「Choseonghae」, 「Jungseonghae」, and 「Jongseonghae」 of the Haerye edition of 『Hunminjeongeum』. The purpose is to find the reporting rules and significance. Only 23 Chinese characters are used to explain the 23 initial consonants, 11 middle consonants, and 8 final consonants in the Haerye edition of 『Hunminjeongeum』. The 23 Chinese characters have different meanings, and the initial consonants and consonants that make up the sound of each letter. Neutrality and finality also have no superficial rules or semantic associations. However, if you look closely, you can see that the Chinese characters used to explain the initial consonants were effectively reused to explain the middle and final consonants, and attention was paid to the order and arrangement of Chinese characters. It was the basis of the calculation to explain all 42 Korean sounds with a minimum of Chinese characters. Since Chinese characters are the language of another language, there are unavoidable limitations in expressing and explaining all the sounds of the Korean language. However, it can be seen that the 23 Chinese characters used to explain the beginning, middle, and final consonants in the Haeryebon of 『Hunminjeongeum』 were a scientific and efficient choice to explain as many phonemes as possible with the minimum number of characters. Through this study, I think that it will be of some help to understand the intention of the creator and to know 『Hunminjeongeum』 right away.
