Abstract
This study has been conducted to analyze the prevalence rate of eating disorders and disordered in female collegiate athletes compared with non-athletes, and also to develop and analyze path model explaining eating disorders behaviors with six variables. A total of 965 college women participated volunteerly including 378 athletes. To find out eating disorders and disordered eating, clinically proven criteria and cut-off score were applied. Each participants completed self-administrated questionnaire on seven variables including EDEQ, dependent variable, and those variables were applied to analyze the eating behavior path between the two groups. The results were as follows: there were no differences in prevalence of eating behaviors in two groups. However, the prevalence rate of disordered eating was higher in athletes group. The means of the variables used in the path model were different in four variables(OBC, SATAQ, P, RSES). In addition, all the path coefficients except perfectionism to self esteem in non-athletes group were statistically significant. However, path model could be explained differently for each group. Exposing in unsafe condition such as disordered eating for a long could develop to eating disorders which is fatal to athletes’ health.
