Abstract
As the world-wide impact of the Covid-19 has limited participation in outdoor leisure and sport activities, many recreationists take more hiking trips to enjoy their leisure time. It may be notable that a large percentage of hikers recently participate in hiking in a serious manner rather than a light or simple way. The main purpose of this study is to examine the conceptual relationships among serious leisure experience, positive psychological capital, and leisure satisfaction. Using a sample of 337 South Korean adults who had participated in hiking during the previous 12 months, this study found statistically significant relationships between the six elements of serious leisure and positive psychological capital. Study findings also suggest that the levels of leisure satisfaction increase as respondents are more seriously engaged in hiking. This study revealed that the four components of positive psychological capital are closely associated with the level of leisure satisfaction. Based on results of multiple regression analyses, different implications emanating from the conceptual linkages among the three variables are discussed.
