Abstract
The purpose of this work is to empirically survey and analyze how much elementary and secondary school students use digital devices and how much the use affects their living. To achieve the purpose, this work prepared a questionnaire and 1,149 elementary students, 1,106 middle school students, and 1,084 high school students participated in the questionnaire survey. This work chose the students who were at the end sides of normal distribution with the exclusion of the middle group of the students who were subject to ±1 standard deviation from the mean. This work classified the chosen students into low-use group and high-use group based on the total use hours of digital devices. According to the study results, in the case of the low-use group, elementary school students used 2 hours, middle school student 5 hours, and high school students 4 and a half hours or so per week on average. In the case of the high-use group, elementary school students used about 15 hours, middle school students 19~20 hours, and high school students about 18 hours. In addition, the high-use group had more problems with the physical body, health, and exercises, social relationships, and the addictive use of digital devices than the low-use group did. Depending on the use hours of digital devices, the living differences of elementary and secondary school students and male and female students clearly appeared. In the circumstance where the full application of digital textbooks is discussed, the students' use habits of digital devices will continue to remain and get deepened in their lifetime. Therefore, as shown in the differences between the low-use group and the high-use group, it is hard to overlook the damages to the students who highly use digital devices.
